CINCINNATI - The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds continued to click on all cylinders as they took down the Gallatin County Wildcats 49-13 to pick up a first-round playoff win.
It marked a fifth straight win for NewCath (7-4), who is getting hot at the right time of the year. NCC has averaged 48.8 points per game during their winning streak.
Quarterback Josh Cain completed 6-of-8 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Running back Dylan Hayes added 78 yards and two scores on the ground and also returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.
With the win NewCath advances to meet Holy Cross, who beat Owen County 42-32 in Round 1. Next week’s game is set for 7:00 PM kickoff next Thursday according to school officials.

The Moeller High School baseball team added to the illustrious history of the program Sunday afternoon with a commanding 7-1 victory over Cleveland St. Ignatius in the Division I state championship game.
