CINCINNATI - The Newport Central Catholic (8-4) offense is hitting its stride at the right time as the Thoroughbreds shutout Holy Cross (4-8), 52-0 to win their sixth straight game and advance to the Regional finals.
During the winning streak, the Thoroughbreds are averaging 49.3 points and righted the ship after starting 2012 at 2-4. It was the second time in four weeks that NCC has beat the Indians while outscoring them 101-10 in those tilts.
Josh Cain completer only five passes but three went for touchdowns as he finished with 166 yards through the air. NewCath put up 366 yards of total offense. For Holy Cross, who won the 2011 Class 2A championship it is time to move forward and look to 2013.
NewCath will take on Walton-Verona (10-2) Friday night at Newport Stadium. It will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
