Monroe (1-0) quarterback, Taylor Larison took the last 13 minutes of a 7-7 game against Talawanda (0-1) into his own hands. Both school had failed to score for over two quarters when Larison broke off a 35-yard touchdown run with under a minute left in the third to give the Hornets the lead for good. The senior wasn’t finished finding the end zone on runs of 75 and 13 yards in the final stanza to put the Braves away for good. When the dust finally settled Larison would run for 238 yards on 23 carries with those three scores and his only completion of the night was a 41-yard touchdown toss to Colin Wilson.
Talawanda sophomore, Maurice Thomas took the opening kickoff 81-yards to the house as he gave his team a big confidence boost. He would wind up with 181 all-purpose yards in his varsity debut. The Braves could not generate any offense after that as they fell for the 14th straight time. The last victory for the program came against Norwood on October 8th of 2010.
Next Friday night, Monroe will host an angry Ross (0-1) that let a victory slip away in Week 1. Talawanda travels to Carlisle (0-1) to take on the Indians.
