CINCINNATI - The Highlands Bluebirds completed their sweep of district opponents and claimed yet another district title as they rolled past the Holmes Bulldogs 57-28 on Friday night at David Cecil Memorial Stadium.
Highlands (8-0, 4-0) scored on the game’s opening play as Colin Seidl returned the kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown. The Bluebirds wasted no time either on their next possession to dent the scoreboard as junior running back Zach Harris broke free for a 72-yard TD run on their first offensive snap.
Harris finished the first quarter with 103 yards on three carries, picking up his fourth 100-yard game of the season.
The Bluebirds scored on each of the next two offensive plays as well as they open up a 29-0 first quarter lead.
Holmes (5-3, 2-1) got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Jonathan Scruggs pulled in a 16-yard TD catch from Frederick Vickers.
Highlands would not slow down though as they headed to the locker room with a 50-14 advantage and with the game very much in hand.
The Bulldogs would add two-fourth quarter touchdowns against the Bluebirds’ reserves.
Highlands plays host to Elder next week while Holmes stays in the district by welcoming CovCath to Tom Ellis Field.
