CINCINNATI - Some league titles are at stake and there are plenty of playoff spots that are still up for grabs as high school football charges into its ninth week of action.
The playoffs actually begin Friday in Indiana with round one of the Sectionals. Columbus East, the top-ranked team in Class 4A begins its playoff journey in St. Leon against East Central. Columbus East is unbeaten, but has only two victories over teams with winning records. East Central has beefed up its schedule and has three wins over teams with winning marks.
Expect a lot of scoring when Conner plays at Scott. Also expect Conner to win. They've done so every year since 1998.
Highlands upended Elder last season 34-29 and the Panthers will look for revenge when they play in Fort Thomas on Friday. Highlands is riding a 28-game winning streak.
The premier game of the night features undefeated Lakota West at undefeated Colerain. It's the best start ever for the Firebirds. Both teams are 5-0 in the Greater Miami Conference.
Unbeaten Turpin plays Loveland, a team that has posted four shutouts this season. Turpin averages more than 33 points per game.
Another fine Friday for football. Greg Shoemaker of TriStatefootball.com and I preview these games in the attached video.
