CINCINNATI - Despite rallying from a 42-21 deficit to take the lead, the Dixie Heights Colonels would come up just short in a 57-50 loss to the Henry Clay Blue Devils on Friday night at Ricemount Joy Stadium.
Dixie Heights (3-8) took a 50-49 lead with just over two minutes left in the game before watching Henry Clay (5-6) score on a flea-flicker in the game’s final minute as Sammy Carter found Austin Black on a 29-yard TD pass for the decisive score.
Sophomore quarterback Drew Moore had a huge night in the loss for the Colonels, who finished with 681 yards of offense. Moore completed 16-of-38 passes for 293 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 201 yards and two more scores in the loss.
Carter paced the Blue Devils with five TD passes to help secure the win. He finished with 393 yards on of 16-of-21 passing.
Henry Clay now advances to face Scott County in the regional semi-finals in Class 6A playoff action next week.
