COVINGTON, Ky. - How sweet this year's boys basketball is for students in Covington Independent Public Schools.
The district announced all students will receive a day off Wednesday, March 6 to send the boys' varsity team to Lexington for the state's Sweet Sixteen. The Bulldogs will play Pleasure Ridge Park at 1:30 p.m. in Rupp Arena.
Holmes enters the state tournament with a 31-2 winning record. Pleasure Ridge comes into the tournament with a 25-7 record in the season.
A pep rally and send-off will be held for the Bulldogs at 9 a.m. on the campus of Holme High School, located at 2500 Madison Ave, Covington. The community is invited to attend, according to a press release from the school district.
The Holmes athletic office is also selling tickets to Wednesday's game, and t-shirts will be on sale for $9 on Tuesday, the release stated.
Holmes won its first state title in basketball in 2009.
