The Covington Catholic Colonels opened the season with a dominating win over the Campbell County Camels for the second straight year, winning the Crosstown Showdown matchup 37-0.
CovCath (1-0) used a 534-96 advantage in total yards to roll to victory.
Sam Dressman scored 25 points in the Colonels season-opening shut out of Campbell County (0-1), including Covington Catholic’s first ten points. The junior finished with four catches for 60 yards and a touchdown and another 41 yards and score on 10 rushing attempts.
Dressman first scored though on a 25-yard field goal midway through the first quarter, and later that quarter he ran in a touchdown from four yards out and then converted the ensuing point after. Dressman would add three more extra points along with another touchdown run and the game’s final score, a 15-yard touchdown catch.
Senior quarterback Blake Bir added a 4-yard rushing touchdown and connected with junior receivers Sam Hatter and Matt Schmall from 14 and 17 yards out respectively for first-half touchdowns. He finished the night by completing 22 of 35 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns and added 65 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.
CovCath returns home next Saturday as they welcome Dixie Heights while Campbell County is set to travel to Milford.
