CINCINNATI - It was back-and-forth battle all night long in Hebron where the Conner Cougars held on to knock off the Ryle Raiders in a non-district affair, 27-21.
Ryle (3-4) got on the scoreboard first as Dylan Plvan returned a Drew Barker interception 18 yards for a touchdown.
Conner (5-2) answered with two scores before the first quarter ended. Cameron Fogle struck first with a 29-yard touchdown run followed by Barker adding a 20-yard rushing touchdown of his own to take the score to 14-7 in advantage of the Cougars at the end of one quarter of play.
Tanner Pulice tied the game up with a 9-yard TD run in the second quarter and helped Ryle take in the lead in the third quarter when he scored again on a 27-yard scamper.
Barker would take over there. He found Andrew Way on a 20-yard scoring strike before the third quarter ended to tie the game. The junior would get the decisive touchdown on an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter. He finished the night with 121 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while completing 9-of-17 passes for 112 yards and a TD. Fogle added 73 yards on 10 carries.
Both teams return to district action next week as Ryle travels to Campbell County and Conner makes a trip south to square off against Grant County
