In a clash of styles, the air it out Lebanon Warriors hosted the power running game of the Centerville Elks tonight. After a hard fought game that featured many big plays and momentum swings, Centerville came out on top 28-19.
Centerville’s (2-2) starting quarterback Jimmy Brooks did not play in the first half. Running back Nick Bozzo filled in for Brooks and Centerville’s offense didn’t miss a beat.
Bozzo started the scoring with a 1-yard rushing touchdown to give the Elks an early 7-0 lead. Following a Lebanon turnover, Centerville went up 14-0 on a 28-yard rushing touchdown by running back Kyle Wenning.
The Warriors would again turn the ball over, this time on a high snap that was recovered by the Elks in the end zone, giving them a commanding 21-0 lead.
Lebanon (3-1) would finally put some points on the scoreboard with 9:24 remaining the second quarter when quarterback Luke Morgan found his favorite target Austin Wolf for a 14-yard touchdown making the score 21-6.
Centerville was threatening to score again before fumbling on Lebanon’s 3-yard line. The Warriors would put together a long drive to close out the first half, capped off with a 2-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Luke Morgan making the score 21-13 at the half.
After a quiet third quarter, Morgan started the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass to Brad Ellis. After failing to tie the game on a 2-point conversion, Lebanon trailed 21-19.
The Elks would not allow their lead to vanish though. Wenning scored his second touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run with 4:28 left, sealing the win for Centerville.
Next week the Elks return home to face Greenville, while Lebanon looks to bounce back as they travel to Kettering to take on Fairmont.
