The Campbell County Camels converted on a gutsy two-point play with 47 seconds left in the game to stun Simon Kenton in a thrilling 29-28 win on Friday night.

Campbell County (3-3) quarterback Tyler Durham scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with under a minute to play in the game to pull the Camels within one point. Campbell County lined up to go for two points; Durham took the snap and rushed across the goal line to give his team the lead. Durham rushed for 222 yards and four touchdowns in the contest.

Simon Kenton (6-1) got on the board first on an interception return by junior defensive back Chase Wilson. The Pioneers converted the two-point play to take an 8-0 lead. Early in the second quarter junior quarterback Brenen Kuntz completed a 23-yard touchdown pass to classmate Grant Wassom increasing the advantage to 14-0.

Durham put the Camels on the board when he broke for a 30-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter, pulling his team to within seven points at the break.

After Campbell County tied the score at 14-14 in the third quarter, the Pioneers regained the lead on a brilliant 44-yard flea flicker play from Kuntz to senior receiver Jacob Huesman. The two teams continued to trade scores throughout the fourth quarter until the Camels took the lead for good on the two-point conversion.

Kuntz finished the game with 18 completions on 33 attempts, racking up 245 passing yards and three touchdowns. Wassom recorded seven catches for 104 yards and one touchdown. The Pioneers rushed for 18 yards against Campbell County.

Durham was seven for 20 passing for 129 yards and three interceptions. He accounted for 351 yards of offense for the Camels against the Pioneers.

Campbell County will travel to Dixie Heights on Oct. 5, while Simon Kenton plays host to Boone County on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
