CINCINNATI - 1985. Back to the Future topped the box office charts. Bruce Springteen’s Born in the U.S.A. finished the year at number one on the Billboard chart. The 49ers beat the Dolphins in the Super Bowl. This was also the last time that the Beavercreek Beavers (6-3, 3-1) defeated the Centerville Elks (5-4, 2-2) in football, until Friday that is.
Beavercreek defeated Centerville at home 27-21, continuing one of the best seasons in their program’s history.
Early on, it was looking like the same old story when Centerville scored on the second play of the game. Running back Tim Roop found the endzone on a 65-yard run, giving the Elks an early 7-0 lead.
The Beavers would answer though. Michael Berry and Airius Moore both scored on short runs and Beavercreek had a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The only scoring in the second quarter came on a 20-yard run by Shaun Hill as the Beavers carried a 20-7 lead in to halftime.
Moore would find the endzone again in the third quarter, this time on a 99-yard run that gave Beavercreek a commanding 27-7 lead.
Centerville would fight back. Roop scored his second touchdown of the night on a 5-yard, cutting the lead to 27-14.
The Elks would add on the only score of the fourth quarter, when Nick Bozzo found Jeremy Uzhca for a 27-yard touchdown pass. However, it wouldn’t be enough as the Beavers prevailed at home.
Beavercreek finished with 375 yards of total offense (326 yards rushing). Moore led the way for the Beavers with 126 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Centerville had 212 yards of total offense (141 yards rushing). Roop had 104 yards and two scores for the Elks.
Next week Beavercreek looks to capture the GWOC Central championship when they travel to Fairmont. Centerville will try to finish the season on a high note when they visit Springfield.
