CINCINNATI - A mascot mistake by the former governor of Ohio had people talking on Twitter Monday night.
After Kent State knocked out top-ranked Florida to continue its Cinderella run at the College World Series, there was lots of excitement on social media, with rapid fire tweets of congratulations flowing through timelines.
One of those who joined in was former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland. But Strickland ran into trouble when instead of the Golden Flashes he tweeted congrats to the Zips, one of Kent State’s main rivals.
Strickland's tweet caused plenty of chatter and “Ted Strickland” to trend in Cleveland.
@ JREakin tweeted "Yep, he's 'in touch' with Ohioans. RT @ Ted_Strickland : Congrats to Kent State for a great win in the College World Series tonight against FL"
@ JCUStreaks10 posted "Yikes... RT @ RickWFNY : Oh brother.... RT @ Ted_Strickland Great win for the Zips tonight against FL in the College World Series."
@ FarleyOhio made an analogy to another rivalry, writing "Like calling Ohio State "Michigan"MT @ ted_strickland : Great win for the Zips tonight against FL in the College World Series”
Strickland deleted the original tweet and reposted with the correct info.
