HEBRON, Ky. - The biggest free agent signing in the history of the Cincinnati Bengals has arrived at his new home.
Terrell Owens landed at the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday.
The 6-time Pro Bowl receiver was supposed to be in the Tri-State Thursday morning, but missed his flight out of Los Angeles because he was working out.
Owens arrived at the airport to a swarm of fans wanting to talk to him, get his autograph and play catch. Many fans followed the new Bengal all the way through the airport until he got into an awaiting vehicle.
The wide receiver arrived in Georgetown to join his new teammates at training camp around 6 p.m. The team says he will practice Thursday evening.
When Owens took the field he was wearing his familiar 81. Antonio Bryant, who was issued the number when he signed earlier this offseason, said after the morning practice Thursday that he spoke with Owens and decided to give the 36-year-old receiver the number.
"I'm a realist," Bryant said. "I said, 'Hey, man, I'm not going to make no big spectacle about it. You've got a bigger legacy and a number than I do. I've been on several teams like you, but I've changed my number several times. You've had the same number. I don't need your money. At the end of the day, all I want you to do is take care of one of my little league programs in Miami. Send them a small donation and we'll go from there."'
The team says Owens will address the media after practice ends at 9 p.m.
