CINCINNATI - Cincinnati claimed early control of the New York Jets in the pre-season opener for both teams, riding their defense and special teams to a 17-6 win.

Andy Dalton completed four of nine passes for 54 yards. He would have had a TD pass to his credit were it not for a dreadful drop by A.J. Green in the end zone in the first quarter. Bruce Gradkowski went five for 10, 86 yards.

Cincinnati forced a Jets fumble and picked off one Tim Tebow pass. It was a blocked punt by Robert Sands recovered by Cedric Peerman in the second quarter that provided what proved to be the winning points.

Regrettably though, the win came at a cost. Rey Maualuga, Carlos Dunlap and Trevelle Wharton among others, went off the field with what appeared to be serious knee injuries. Cincinnati's next test is Thursday at Atlanta.
