CINCINNATI - Back when you played in or attended a scrimmage in high school school, coaches would experiment with new setups, and they would juggle players in hopes of finding a winning combination.
The NFL is a lot different, especially for a team that went to the playoffs a year ago.
The Bengals held their annual intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday, but the play for the first stringers was restricted, with more attention paid to the reserves.
Some 6,000 fans came to watch the scrimmage, which was held at Paul Brown Stadium for the first time.
The portion that featured full-contact was limited to short-yardage situations. The defense came up with several nice stops, and some in key situations.
Quarterback Andy Dalton got to play against the backups and he completed all five of his passes. He found A.J Green twice and Jermaine Gresham twice.
The Bengals will hold their Black/White Mock game on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium at 6p.m. Gates are scheduled to open at 4 o'clock.
