CINCINNATI - The Bengals re-signed kicker Mike Nugent.

The announcement was made Sunday afternoon.

The deal avoids Nugent becoming an unrestricted free agent, according to the Cincinnati Bengals. On the Bengals website the organization reported Nugent signed a two-year contract.

"It's great to be able to come back to a place where you love going to work every day," Nugent said on the team's website. "That obviously means a lot and I really think we've got a good thing going with the specialists. We've been together a long time and that not only helps us, but it helps the team, too."

In 2011, his first year with the Bengals, Nugent set the record for points, 132, and field goals, 33, in a season. In 2012, a 55-yard field goal versus the Oakland Raiders tied a Bengals field goal distance record.

With the Bengals Nugent made 83.8 percent of his field goals.

Nugent missed the last four games of the 2012 season with a calf injury sustained in practice on Dec. 5. The Bengals report Nugent is now healthy.
