CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati recreation center was a little busier today than most Sunday afternoons. That's because it was packed with area children that came out to enjoy a playdate with some UC athletes.
The playdate was hosted by the UC football team and Mitch's Mission. Mitch's Mission is a fundraiser that benefits cancer and blood disease patients at Children's Hospital Medical Center.
Mitch's Mission grew out of a relationship between the UC football team and Mitch Stone, a young cancer patient adopted by the Bearcats three years ago. Mitch is now healthy and free of cancer. With help from the UC football team, Mitch's family created this fundraiser so that they could lend a helping hand to kids with similar health issues.
All proceeds from the event will be used to send children from the blood and disease institute at Cincinnati Children's to summer camp.
