Virginia Commonwealth University will leave the Colonial Athletic Association and join the Atlantic 10, according to CBSSports.com .

VCU will be the second new addition to the A-10, joining Butler University. The two new additions replace departing Temple, which is headed to the Big East, and Charlotte, which is headed to Conference USA.

The Rams will officially join the league in the 2013 season, according to the CBS Sports report.

The two new additions bolster the A-10 basketball presence in NCAA D-I competition, and make a better case for the conference to break out of the "mid-major" labeling. VCU went to the Final Four in 2011, and Butler went to two consecutive Final Fours in 2010-2011.

The new additions should also make Xavier University's yearly campaign look a lot better, with two more top tier basketball programs added to their conference schedule.
