CINCINNATI - A month before the end of the season and playoffs are a real possibility for the Reds.

We asked Greg Grady, an adjunct statistics professor at Xavier University to crunch the numbers before Wednesday's game.

"Using the winning percentage of .583 with 30 games left, the Reds are projected to win 17 of their next 30 games," Grady explained.

"For the Cardinals to to end up tying the Reds, and the Reds continue on with their pace or .583, or win 17 out of their next 30 games, the Cardinals would need to win at least 25 games in their next 32 which would be a winning percentage of .781,"

Fans use to a losing team say they're becoming more confident about this year.

"[It's] certainty do-able, but they gotta, you know, the old cliché, play them one at a time and just keep winning," said Seattle resident Don Rench.

The magic number to win the division is 23, or the number of combined Reds wins and Cardinals losses.
