SPARTA, Ky. - It appears that Northern Kentucky's dream of hosting a Sprint Cup race at the Kentucky Motor Speedway may be coming true.

Officials at the track tell Channel 9 Sports Director John Popovich that in all likelihood, they will be making a major announcement August 10th, at the track.

They say that announcement, by new owner and chairman Bruton Smith of Speedway Motorsports, will be that St. Louis' Gateway track is going to relinquish a date that would be moved to Kentucky. That race, they hope, will be the third week in July.

In order to do that, the track will need to add seating, something that Smith has said would not be a problem to get done for the 2011 season.
