CINCINNATI - A local school is seeing gold and green.

Dater Montessori is Ohio's first public school renovation to receive a Gold level of LEED certification. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It is a system of ratings for the design, construction and operation of green buildings, homes and neighborhoods.

Our 9 News cameras got a tour of  Dater Montessori Thursday night from student eco-leaders.

The school now features a rain water catchment system, furniture made from reclaimed materials, and a nature center. There are benches made of bamboo, and other furniture made of recycled urban timber. The nature center includes a natural habitat, arboretum, and vegetable garden.

Students have produced a Green School Tour Book to show off all the green improvements. Cincinnati Arts and Technology Center also helped produce the book, along with ALI's Eco Mentors.
