CLEVELAND - An infant and an elderly woman are two in Ohio who have gotten sick as a result of a salmonella outbreak associated with recalled dog food, the state said.
The Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Department of Agriculture said Friday it’s working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in investigating the cases involving a 74-year-old woman in Franklin County and a 4-month-old in Morrow County.
“Humans can become ill by handling pet products contaminated with Salmonella, and by coming in contact with pets or with surfaces that have been contaminated. Hand washing is the most effective way to prevent illness, “ said the ODHODA.
The department of health said there have been 14 human illnesses reported in nine states linked to the same pet food.
