AKRON, Ohio - Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic and representatives of Hull Energy cut the ribbon Wednesday on a new green waste-to-energy project.
The project is capturing methane gas being produced at the now-closed Hardy Road Landfill, and pumping it to a huge engine at the city's wastewater treatment plant.
The engine currently is producing about 40 percent of the energy needed to run the plant. By mid-2013 the city hopes to be able to produce about 95 percent of the energy needed to run the plant through two green projects.
