COLUMBUS, Ohio - Opponents of controversial Senate Bill 5 have vowed to block the law from taking effect.

Gov. John Kasich, (R) Ohio, signed the bill into law March 31. The legislation aims to cut state spending by limiting the bargaining power of state union employees.

Ohio House of Representatives spokesman Mike Dittoe said the law is scheduled to go into effect in 90 days. However, if opponents collect 231,000 valid signatures on a petition, the law will not go into effect. Instead, the measure would go on the November ballot for voters to decide.
