AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say an Ohio man passing the scene of a fire jumped out of his car, kicked in the door of the smoke filled house and rescued an 85-year-old woman.
Fire officials in Kenmore section of Akron said 27-year-old John McKinney and his girlfriend stopped at a gas station Monday when they spotted flames shooting from the front porch of the house and heavy smoke pouring out.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports the 85-year-old woman was trapped inside, and her 79-year-old husband was outside unable to get back in.
Firefighters called McKinney a hero, but the Akron man downplayed it. He said he hoped someone would do the same for him.
The residents were treated at a hospital but were expected to be OK.
