Millions of people will take to the sky this weekend in order to make it somewhere special for the upcoming holidays.

However with a recent stretch of winter weather plaguing the Midwest, air travel could be trying for many travelers.

9 On Your Side talked with Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport spokesperson Molly Flanagan about ways to ensure your holiday travel season is as painless as possible.

While Cincinnati may experience some winter conditions this weekend, Flanagan confirmed that most of the travel issues will likely occur at other airports throughout the Midwest. Places like Chicago, which has already canceled thousands of flights , Minneapolis, Minn., Kansas City, Mo. and St. Louis, Mo. will likely be some of the affected airports Friday and throughout the weekend, Flanagan said.

Flanagan said a traveler’s best bet for ensuring safe, prompt and worry-free travel this weekend is to contact the airline through which you’re traveling to check on things like the status of your specific flight and any delays begin experienced at airports with which you might interact during your trip.

Of course, connecting with your airline on one of the busiest travel weekends of the year isn’t always easy so Flanagan said flyers can also use the CVG Flight Status Tracker found on the CVG website to check on their flights. This tool will not provide specifics on delays, Flanagan said, but it will let you know if you’re in for a lengthy wait.

The CVG Airport website also provides a series tips for travelers on topics like baggage rules, lost items and wait times.

Flanagan said she doesn’t expect the current weather front to impact travel too much, but airport staff has been increased to accommodate the bigger than usual crowds that will flood the gates at the Hebron, Ky. airport this weekend.

Safe travels!
