CLEVELAND - Gambling rookies may feel out of place in Ohio's new casinos in Cleveland and Toledo, with questions like how to play and whether to tip the dealer.

Casino assistant general manager Brad Hirsch in Cleveland has some advice: ask if you don't know. He compares it to asking questions in the hardware store.

Blackjack signals may confuse rookies. Don't fret if the game is moving too fast. Walter Thomason's book "Blackjack for the Clueless" says it's OK to take your time.

As for tipping: yes. Jill Vangen with the Ohio School of Casino Dealers says dealers rely on tips for a significant part of their income. The amount is up to the player, but she thinks 10 percent of a winning hand is about right.
