CLEVELAND - The impact of Hurricane Sandy is stirring up Lake Erie and surfers are taking advantage of it.

Lake Erie had 15-20 feet waves on Monday night.

North gales have been increasing to 45 knots with waves building to 15 feet on Monday, according to the National Weather Service. The northwest winds are expected to increase to 50 knots, creating 20-feet waves.

Windsurfers and kite surfers took to the water at Edgewater Beach Monday afternoon to take advantage of the high waves.

The lake temperature is 56 degrees near Cleveland.

A storm warning is in effect through Tuesday morning.
