BARBERTON, Ohio - A 17-year-old boy from Barberton will stay in custody until at least his 21st birthday for the rape and death of his 3-year-old half-sister.

The Summit County Prosecutor’s Office said Judge Linda Teodosio sentenced D’Marquess Jones to the custody of the Department of Youth Services. If he gets in trouble while at DYS, he could service the adult portion of his sentence – life in prison with eligibility for parole after 25 years.

A jury found Jones guilty of murder and rape on Dec. 13.

Investigators said Jones raped Makayla Jones during Father’s Day weekend in 2011. The girl was taken to the hospital after appearing to be in severe pain and unable to keep down food and juice.

According to the prosecutor, doctors discovered the girl’s colon was perforated and she was septic. She died a few days later when she was taken off life support.
