BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - The father of a missing 20-year-old Indiana University student says he and his wife would typically get a phone call from her every day, making the days of looking for her especially stressful.

Hundreds of volunteers spent much of Monday searching downtown Bloomington near Lauren Spierer's apartment and in wooded areas, construction sites and around lakes in the area. Police say she was last seen about 4:30 a.m. Friday walking alone a few blocks to her apartment following a night of partying with friends.

Robert Spierer tells The Herald-Times that his daughter is a compassionate and loving person who is very close to her mother. Robert and Charlene Spierer and their 25-year-old daughter traveled over the weekend from Greenburgh, N.Y., to join in the search.

More searches are planned Tuesday.
