CINCINNATI - 2012 is not over, but the top searches for the year are already being compiled by Yahoo!

At the top of the list of top overall searches was "election." That was followed closely by "iPhone 5." Kim Kardashian, Kate Upton and Kate Middleton all made the top five.

Yahoo! also compiled lists divided by categories.

At the top of the viral obsession search list was the iPhone 5. "Political polls," "megamillions" and "The Hunger Games" followed. "Honey Boo Boo" rounded out the top five followed closely by "Fifty Shades of Grey."

The most-searched songs on Yahoo! for 2012 included Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" and rapper Psy's "Gangnam Style."
