CINCINNATI - A pregnant woman is recovering from "serious injuries" and grieving the loss of her unborn child after she was involved in a fatal one-vehicle accident in Westwood around midday Saturday.

According to the Cincinnati Police Department, Monica Brown, 22, was traveling eastbound in the 2400 block of Montana Avenue just before noon when she lost control of her 2002 Toyota Avalon and struck a utility pole. She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. 9 On Your Side learned that the woman's condition was listed as "good" as of 10:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

Medical staff at Good Samaritan confirmed that Brown was in the third trimester of her pregnancy. The staff determined that the fetus was "not viable" due to injuries it suffered during the crash.

Brown, who had to be extricated from her vehicle by the Cincinnati Fire Department, was not wearing her seat belt, according to police.

Police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
