Investigation into N.Ky. mayor completed, results to be announced

VILLA HILLS, Ky. - The results of the investigation into the behavior of Villa Hills Mayor Mike Martin are being released Monday evening.

Martin is accused of retaliatory behavior and comments, misuse of city facilities, violating the Open Records Act, and burning city documents.

In November, city council hired the law firm of Taliaferro, Carran and Keys to handle the investigation. Phil Taliaferro will present his findings at a special called hearing at 6:30 p.m.

Earlier this month, Taliaferro said Martin was cooperating with the investigation. He wouldn't comment on if Martin answered all his questions or not.

Several council members have requested that Martin resign. He says that won't happen.

Depending on the results of the investigation being released Monday, council could call for a removal hearing to kick Martin out of office.

When asked last week about the pending investigation, Martin declined to comment.

He did go door to door earlier this month, handing out a letter to Villa Hills residents defending his behavior and addressing what he calls the challenges he's "endured and overcome."

Martin appeared in Kenton County Circuit Court Thursday in an unrelated case involving a Villa Hills Police Officer accusing Martin of retaliatory behavior, libel, and slander.

Judge Patricia Summe reprimanded Martin, asking why anyone would think it was OK to burn city documents.

Summe stated Thursday she would consider any document destruction in the city of Villa Hills as spoiling of evidence in a lawsuit against Martin. She also said no one was using good judgment when the decision to destroy city documents was made.

The results of the investigation will be announced Monday at 6:30 p.m. at River Ridge Elementary School.
