Slain Florence couple laid to rest

FLORENCE, Ky. - Bill and Peggy Stephenson were pillars of the Union Baptist Church. Bill was a deacon and Peggy was the church organist for several years.

That building wasn't big enough to hold all of the people that wanted to pay their respects to the couple. Friday's service was moved to the Florence Baptist Church so that more people could attend.

"There was not a dry eye in there, it was awesome, just a great tribute," said Mike Fitzwater, a friend of the Stephensons.

The Stephensons were found dead in their home Sunday after they didn't show up for church. So far deputies have released little information on the investigation. But, they say they're investigating the case as a double homicide.

"It's a terrible thing that happened, but Bill would have said to whoever did this to forgive them," said Richard Miller, a fellow member of Union Baptist Church.

The Stephensons were laid to rest at a private burial after the memorial service.
