ALEXANDRIA, Ky. - The principal of a Northern Kentucky school ran 27 miles on Sunday to raise money for cancer research.
Anthony Mazzei of Campbell Ridge Elementary ran 27 miles on a stretch of Highway 27 on Jan. 27. Mazzei told 9 On Your Side he chose cancer research because the disease has affected several members of his family over the years.
He reportedly began his route at Northern Kentucky University and ran to Grant's Slick Road before turning around and running back to the NKU campus.
Mazzei asked his students, staff and the community to support him. He's encouraging people to make a $27 donation. As of Thursday, he had received $3,800 in pledges.
All donations will be matched by a sponsor at the end of the event.
Mazzei's two sons, who also attend Campbell Ridge Elementary, were part of his crew.
