Police evacuate Twenhofel Middle School in Independence after student makes bomb threat

INDEPENDENCE, Ky. - Students at Twenhofel Middle School were evacuated Wednesday after a bomb threat was made.

Kenton County police said a student stated in a text message to another student that he had a bomb in his locker. Police say they did not locate any explosives during the investigation.

Officers said all the students were evacuated to another building as a safety precaution. The students were allowed back into the school shortly before 2 p.m.

Police were asking parents not to come to the school as their children would not be released from the building during the threat. School officials said students were sent home during normal school hours.

School officials sent a letter home with students explaining the incident.

Officials said they wanted to stress that no one was injured and all the students were safe and accounted for.

Since the suspect is a juvenile his identity will not be released.

Crews from the Kenton County Police Department, the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Police and Independence Fire Department were called to the school to deal with the situation. A bomb-sniffing dog was also used during the investigation.
