Independence, KY - Members of our armed serves and local organizations honored local veterans who served our country in the line of duty Saturday afternoon.

Members of Boone County Sqaudron Civil Air Patrol placed wreaths at the memorial flag at Independence Cemetary this afternoon.

It's all apart of the Wreaths Across America National Ceremony which recognizes U.S. Veterans by placing wreaths on fallen soldiers' graves during the holiday season.

Organizers say this is just a small step to say thank you to the veterans for their courage and sacrifice.

It's a great feeling, everyday when i go out my job i get thanked by 10, 15, 20 people everyday and it gives you a great feeling to know that you've done something proud and everybody's proud at what you've done, said Brian Dufresne, a local recruiter for the Marine Core in Florence, Kentucky.

"It makes me feel good knowing that i'm here honoring the good deeds that others are doing. to see the young men who were standing up here accepting the wreaths, to see the older gentleman who have served and who are still continuing to serve their countries eventhough they left the force that they were with, to be apart of that is just an amazing thing, to be able to say thank you on a very personal level, said Jaimie Henson, a Public Affairs Officer with Boone County Civil Air Patrol.

Cermonies like this one happened at more than 500 cemeteries across the United States.
