INDEPENDENCE, Ky. - Independence and Covington police are warning people to lock their doors and watch out for suspicious activity after two daytime home break-ins Wednesday.

Independence Police say a homeowner on Pelly Road came home around 12 p.m. to find an older maroon Ford pickup truck in his driveway. The homeowner then saw a man walking across the front yard with a clipboard. The man told the homeowner he was looking for a house to do some work, but he was at the wrong house. The man left and the homeowner discovered several items missing from inside his house.

About two hours later, Covington police say a burglar or burglars pried open the back door of a house on Sugar Camp Road. That’s less than a mile from the first breakin. The homeowner says the burglars took thousands of dollars worth of tools and trashed the inside of the house.

Independence police have a description of the suspect. Officers say he is a white man in his 30s. He was wearing a green shirt, blue jeans and a gray ball cap.

Officers say they are still investigating and if you have any information to call the Independence Police Department at (859) 356-2697.
