INDEPENDENCE, KY. - A vehicle crash in Kenton County Thursday morning has injured a child and a father.

Michael Pompilio, 23, was driving his paper route on Staffordsburg Road in Independence, Ky., when he ran off the road and struck a tree at about 6:45 a.m. Pompilio’s two children were in the vehicle at the time of the accident, but only one child was injured.

A 5-year-old boy sustained a head injury and a medical helicopter transported him to University Hospital. Officials say the boy was in the front passenger seat at the time of the accident.

An infant and was in a car seat and was not injured, according to police. Pompilio sustained a leg injury and was transported to UC.

Officials have not released information about the conditions of the child or Pompilio at this time.

Officials have not released any additional details about the crash at this time including what led to the accident.
