Drop-in child care centers for snow days

FLORENCE, Ky. - Finding child care on a snow day can be a hassle, especially when schools and daycares decide to close.

But local parents don't have to worry about calling off to work in order to stay home with their children.

Thanks to drop-in child care centers, parents are able to drop-off their children at any time of the day without a reservation or prior history with the center.

Skidaddles:

Skidaddles is a drop-in child care center located in Florence at 8660 Bankers Street. Owners say it's the first of its kind in the entire state of Kentucky.

Parents simply fill out a registration form once they drop their child off. It's $8/hour for one child, and $12/hour for two children.

"The fact that parents know that even on snow days that they have to be at work and scramble for child care, we are open nonstop. It's hourly care. There's no commitment to us versus other child care centers," said Becki Cordrey, Skidaddles Director.

Skidaddles' snow day hours are based on the Boone County School District, which means if the district is on a one hour delay, then Skidaddles will open at 7:30 a.m. instead of 6:30 a.m. If the district is closed, then the center opens at 8:30 a.m.

"We provide lunches, we do meals, and you can guarantee that they're age-appropriate activities going on for ages 12 months to 12 years," said Cordrey

Another Skidaddles location is set to open across the river in Mason in March.

There's also a similar facility with the same concept in Montgomery.

The owners of Kidz Watch say they make every effort to stay open on snow days, and usually open at 7:30 a.m. if not sooner.

The cost is $9/hour per child.

If the snowfall and ice get messier later in the week and winter months, then these are definitely a few place to keep in mind.
