FLORENCE, Ky. - The Boone County Sheriff's Office has located a man they wanted to question in connection to the murders of Northern Kentucky couple over Memorial Day weekend.

Investigators say Sherman D. Angel, 48, who also goes by Dwayne, had been speaking with Bill Stephenson at the T.A. (Travel Centers of America) Truck Stop located in the 7700 block of Burlington Pike in Florence on Friday, May 27, 2011.

The sheriff's office says Angel called their office after learning detectives were looking for him. He was interviewed by detectives Friday afternoon.

On Sunday, May 29, Bill and Peggy Stephenson, both 74, were found murdered in their home on Ridge Edge Court near Florence. A family member went to their home after they failed to show up for church. Investigators are not releasing many details on how the couple died, only saying the case is being treated as a double homicide.

Angel, a transient, holds an Arizona drivers license but was believed to be in the area due to a July 20 arrest and release in Kenton County, according to the sheriff's office. Investigators say Angel was in the Tri-State over the Memorial Day weekend.

Angel was considered a witness who authorities wanted to interview to determine if he could provide information concerning the Stephenson homicides.

Another man who was observed speaking with Bill Stephenson at the truck stop on that Friday was later identified and submitted to an interview with authorities. Authorities did not release his name, but said he was a truck driver who was very cooperative.

Anyone with information on the murders is asked to call either the Boone County Sheriff’s Tip Line at (859) 334-3500 or Crime Stoppers at (513) 352-3040.
