CRESCENT SPRINGS, Ky. - Power has been restored to Kenton County customers after Duke Energy equipment caught fire at a substation Wednesday.

Duke officials said the equipment is high voltage and it’s not unusual for it to catch fire.

Cold weather temperatures were also a factor because switching over to another circuit for electricity is not as easily done as when there are normal temperatures, officials said.

Duke currently has a digital team at the substation that activated and prevented another 5,000 customers from experiencing a long outage, Duke Energy spokeswoman Sally Thelen said.
