COVINGTON, Ky. - Hundreds of students from across Northern Kentucky put their talents to the test in a regional competition on Saturday.
Holmes High School in Covington hosted SkillsUSA Competition. It's a non profit organization that prepares students for trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
Juniors and seniors from Newport, Covington, Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Grant, Pendleton, and Carroll counties competed in a variety of areas. They included carpentry, electric, autobody, welding, first aid, broadcast news, computer maintenance, web design and advertising design.
"It gives them a chance to work with other people, demonstrate what they've gone to school to train for and basically provide them a way to see they can accomplish something," said David Schaefer, Holmes High School IT Instructor.
The top two student winners from each category will go on to compete in the state competition in Louisville in April.
