COVINGTON, Ky. - Traffic continues to move slowly in both directions on the Brent Spence Bridge due to falling debris and emergency pothole repair.

Covington police say rocks and pebbles began to fall from construction on the upper deck down onto the northbound lanes of the bridge shortly after 10 a.m.

The right two lanes of the southbound side remain closed while crews investigate. Crews reopened all northbound lanes.  All lanes of the interstate were shut down at one point.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said they hoped the repairs would be completed by 4:30 p.m. But as of 5:43 p.m., the lanes are still closed.

Traffic is backed up for several miles in both directions. Drivers should avoid the area and seek alternate routes, including I-275 and I-471.

Wood says this work is not related to the Revive the Drive project.
