BURLINGTON, Ky. - The Boone County Animal Shelter, crowded with cats, is making progress but there are still cats that are in need of good homes.

Out of the 91 cats being housed at the shelter, 45 have been adopted.

Shelter officials say their cat problem has been escalating for years but now it's quite crowded with the need for cages set up in the lobby to house many of the cats.

Starting on Friday, the Shelter will stay open until 8 p.m. and will also be open on Saturday to make adoptions even easier.

The shelter is also considering eliminating the adoption cost for older cats who have already been spayed or neutered as a special offer, along with $25 adoptions for other cats.
