When Gary and Jennifer Smallwood handed Reiley Elementary School principal Julie Hubbard a check for $10,000, she says it was an "absolute surprise."

The Smallwoods have a child attending Reiley. Their two older children came through the school as well.

Gary Smallwood volunteers at the school.

They told Hubbard they were so happy with the quality of their children's education there, they wanted to give back.

When they heard about the school's  technology efforts, they decided that was where they wanted their money to go.

Hubbard said $10,000 will put a new iPad in each classroom in the school.

The new equipment brings up a challenge Hubbard and her staff have been facing for a while now.

"The sky's the limit with technology right now," she said. "Our students are coming to us now knowing how to manipulate ipads and iTouches and we have to keep up."

So they enlisted fifth grader Nick Johnson to help bring them up to speed on the new devices, making him a full fledged member of their IT Department.

"It's fun and you learn at the same time," Nick said. "And we would usually test the apps out before we give them to the teachers."

The devices have been ordered and should arrive in a few days.
