WEST CHESTER, Ohio - Are you preparing for the zombie apocalypse? Or just in the mood for some fantasy-world fun? A Tri-State attraction can help.
Local businessman Kevin Higgins is inviting you to bring the whole family along and shoot zombies with real guns.
"As you're walking through the shoot house, everything is dark, it's very spooky. We've got the full ambiance going," he said. "When a zombie sees you it goes 'Ahhhh!' and you've got three or four seconds to engage before the zombie eats your brains."
Kevin Higgins is the owner and the brains behind Shoot Extreme. He spent 10 years in the infantry, doing a lot of reality-based training.
"Back in August and September of 2009, I was watching the History Channel and had a show on that featured the use of simunition," he said. "I was saying wouldn't that be fun?"
With his military background and imagination, Higgins' idea took off.
Shoot Extreme gives guests the opportunity to combine defense tactics while stepping out of reality and into fantasy at the same time.
Brent Garland tried out the range for the first time. He said he shoots often in his spare time and is definitely coming back.
"The first one comes up behind you and kind of scares you, took two bullets on that one and the rest came down pretty easy. It's pretty fun," he said.
"You know zombies, everybody gets," Higgins said. "It's a fantasy target, there's a zombie hunting mania that's sweeping the country and the world."
The bullets used in the range are harmless, and the zombies are too.
