WEST CHESTER - When students in the Lakota Local School District head back to class next month, it will be the first time they will start the school year under drastic busing cuts.
However, a new busing service is hoping to ease the burden for parents, and time is running out to take advantage of it.
The deadline for parents to register for LBS Busing Service is Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 11:59 p.m.. It costs around $13 per child per week. Discounts are available for families with multiple children.
To register, go to http://www.lbsbusing.com/.
Parents throughout the district have spent the last month pondering whether the service is a better alternative compared to car pooling.
The Lakota School Board voted earlier this year to cut busing to all high school students, and any student from kindergarten to junior high who lives within two miles from his or her school.
With the LBS deadline approaching, owner and Lakota alum Troy Evans said he has seen a mass influx in registration this week alone for not only Lakota students, but for those who attend private school as well.
The Super Bowl champ said his buses are filling up fast, and he wanted to make sure every parent was aware of the deadline.
"Being a startup we really want to give ourselves every chance to make this really a successful venture, and to do that a lot of the other providers in Lakota announce their bus times in mid to late August and we want to try to be right around there if not a week or so earlier," said Evans.
"So we need some time to really evaluate our enrollment, figure out the who's and the where's and really get that down pack to be able to announce our routes and our stops."
Evans said there is a cancellation policy, so parents are not tied to the service whether they paid for a month or the whole school year.
