MONROE, Ohio - A Davis Drive home is in ruins after an overnight fire ravaged the home.
Monroe Fire Chief John Centers says an unattended fire pit is to blame for the destruction.
Early Sunday morning around 2:30, crews were called for a report of a fire in the backyard, just moments later dispatch received another call that it was actually a home on fire.
Fire was coming shooting through the roof of the two-story home when firefighters arrived on scene.
A resident told firefighters she was awakened by the sound of glass breaking and saw fire on the back deck as well as the outside walls of the home.
While fighting the blaze, crews found the family cat trapped under debris in the living room and rescued the cat.
Crews were on scene until about 6 a.m. extinguishing the fire and putting out hot spots.
The chief says an unattended fire pit on the back deck is what caused the fire.
Damage is estimated to exceed $200,000 and the house is a total loss.
